Extreme Makeover: Superman Edition

Superman is getting a makeover.  Apparently, a new graphic novel focusing on the Man of Steel will include an updated version of the classic super hero. According to the author, the novel is considered a "reinterpretation of the younger years" and will feature an updated Clark Kent as the main character.

First of all, we already have a "reinterpretation of the younger years". It's called Smallville and it has done a pretty great job of chronicling Clark's younger years for the past nine seasons.

Also, why are we changing a perfectly suitable (and totally hot) icon into something "hip"? There is absolutely no need for this. Superman is supposed to wear plaid shirts or suits (depending on whether he is working on Kent farm or reporting at the Daily Planet) by day and the cape and tights by night, leaving no room for skinny jeans and a hoodie that strategically covers just the right parts of his "scene" haircut.

Pop culture icons are popular for a reason. The original Superman is classic and should remain the same, no need for any changes. And besides, updating a classic cartoon never works out. Dora the Explorer controversy ring a bell?
